DAY 61: The thought for today is PEACE

“Practice watering seeds of joy and peace, not the seeds of anger and violence, and the elements of war in all of us will be transformed.” Thich Nhat Hanh.

 You water seeds of anger and violence by deciding to stay angry and to act violently.  You water seeds of joy and peace by deciding to remain peaceful and calm, no matter what is happening. 

Peace does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart and mind, and then respond in a non-violent way to generate peaceful and harmonious solutions.  

Peace on the inside generates peace on the outside.  Remember, we live our lives from the inside out.  Consciousness is first cause.

Mediation is path to peace on the inside.  We do not have to sit in an ashram or devote hours a day for mediation to work for us.  Meditation is a way to control the chatter of the mind by focusing on one thing.  Whenever your mind begin to wander, simply bring it back to your focused thought.  This could be a simple mantra, a God thought, or a word that brings calm to your mind.  There is much more information on Google.

One of the most basic practices is to focus on your breathing.  Count each full cycle of breath as the air goes in and out of your nostrils.  If you lose count, this means that your thoughts have wandered. So simply start over and see how far you can count. No blame, just practice. 

As you practice this daily for 5-15 minutes or more, your mind will begin to calm down.  You will have more control over your thoughts and emotions and your reactions will be more peaceful and non-violent.

Today: I will practice 5-15 minutes of mediation daily. I choose to meet each experience with an intention for calm and peace. I will be aware of any feelings of anger or irritation and replace them with feelings of calm. I will envision areas of unrest transformed into safe havens for all people. I will see beyond conflict and discord to the truth: Peace is a choice, everywhere present and active, now, at all times, and in all circumstances.
